Accredited Breath Alcohol Technician Training
This course may be used for Initial training OR the 5-Year Recertification training.
Motor Carriers & Drivers are required to be in an Alcohol and Drug Testing program that includes random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and other alcohol testing.
Breath Alcohol Technicians can perform alcohol testing for:
- Commercial drivers
- Pilots
- School bus drivers
- Merchant Mariners
- Transit employees
- Pipeline workers
- All other DOT Administrations
- All non-DOT regulated businesses that conduct alcohol testing of their employees
Federal regulations require a 2-part training to become a DOT Certified Specimen Collector:
A “Qualification Course” followed by a “Proficiency Demonstration”
Prior to registration, you must choose which device you will be using, the Lifeloc EV30 or Phoenix 6.0.

Qualification Training:
Upon registration, you will be able to access training instructions through the Training Portal which is the first dropdown link under the training menu. You may start or stop the video at any time and return to finish the video as needed.
Available for your use are testing forms, charts that offer guidance, and brochures that you may find useful.
Students will receive a LIFELOC Certificate upon completion of this portion of the training. You must upload a copy of this certificate in the place provided within your course. Once completed, you will have access to our online scheduling platform where you may schedule your “Proficiency Demonstration”. This must be completed within 30 days.
Proficiency Demonstration:
This face-to-face proficiency demonstration is performed with a TeamCME representative via video conference, and usually takes about 60 minutes to complete.
Students must have a LIFELOC Breath Alcohol Tester available to perform the proficiency demonstration.
